Who We Are

The Delany Foundation

The Delany Foundation, named after the Patrician Brothers' founder, is a registered not-for-profit charity seeking to improve the human and spiritual condition of young people in need especially in places of Patrician mission in developing countries.

Over 200 years ago, a majority of Catholic children and youth had no access to school education in Ireland. Bishop Daniel Delany founded two Religious Congregations, the Brigidine Sisters (1807) and the Patrician Brothers (2008) to provide learning and general well-being for the young ones who were so deprived. Education remained the main mission of the Sisters and Brothers in many countries for almost 200 years.

Recalling the hardships and deprivations of the pioneer generations of Patrician Brothers in Catholic schools in Australia prior to the granting of Government funding from the 1970s onwards, the Brothers and friends, as a legacy of Bicentenary celebrations in 2008, established the Delany Foundation. The main purpose of the Foundation is to lend support for Patrician-linked projects in circumstances of great need in India, Kenya, Papua New Guinea, and Ghana.

To date, the Patrician-linked schools in Sydney have been the main source of Foundation funding. The hope is to broaden the base of funding to include members of the wider Patrician family and their connections. Additionally, Patrician Brothers College, Fairfield organises a DF Golf Day in October each year, and a Delany Foundation Dinner fund-raiser is held every second year.

The Delany Foundation is managed by a Board of Directors:

Brother Paul O'Keeffe fsp (Province Leader)
Dr Michael Krawec (Chairman)
Mr Patrick Elliott (Secretary & Treasurer)
Dr Zachariah Duke
Mrs Karen Gatt (Minutes Secretary)
Brother Aengus Kavanagh fsp
Mr Daniel McInerney
Br Thomas Rice fsp
Mr Peter Wade

The Board of the Foundation meets regularly to examine, approve, monitor and ensure the flow of funds to its projects occurs on a cost effective basis. The Foundation has in place strong corporate governance policies that help it meet its formal charitable guidelines and its particular projects.
